From the combat environments that look pulled from other sections of the game to the near lack of story, there just isn't anything here that will get you excited about continuing on. The entirety of Pinnacle Station feels uninspired. That means plenty of slow-loading textures and annoying waiting in between bursts of combat that only last a couple of minutes. If you fail to get first place in one of the combat scenarios, you can't restart it without loading back into Pinnacle Station and then going through the entire loading sequence over again. Lots of speed combat means lots of framerate dips and clunky gameplay. They did manage to create the perfect gameplay scenario for showing off each and every one of Mass Effect's faults. I have to hand it to those that designed Pinnacle Station, though. Beat that, and you'll be done with Pinnacle Station with just a new gun and 150 Achievement points to show for it.Īnd+for+this+mission,+you+get+to+stand+next+to+a+yellow+pole. It's the same as the other Survival challenges, only you have to last five minutes and you get a new area to run around. Beat those and you get to attempt Ahern's special survival mode. Once you beat the first eight combat scenarios, you're given four more.

Why? No idea, but it certainly is frustrating the first time it happens without warning. The odd part is that once you reach about 20 kills, you can't add time to the clock. Here you have to kill enemies to add time to an ever dwindling clock. There's also a mode called Capture where you simply have to run from one flag point to the next. Another requires you to survive as long as you can against unending waves of foes. There's one that tasks you with killing every enemy as fast as possible. You'll first be tasked with topping the charts in eight different scenarios, divided up into four different flavors. After a bit of big talk, you take up the challenge of beating the best scores. The station's commander, Ahern, has set this program up to keep everybody fighting fit. This is where you'll spend the rest of your time with this expansion. Upon arrival, you'll find your character funneled to the back of the space station towards a virtual reality combat simulator. In order to start the mission, all you have to do is travel to the new spot on your map, flagged as Pinnacle Station. If you haven't yet become a Spectre, or have reached the end-game, this content will be closed off. Like Bring Down the Sky, you'll have to access the greater galactic map in order to play through this download. This one is called Pinnacle Station and rather than beat around the bush, I'll just get right to it. But just when you had turned all of your attention towards the sequel, due out early next year, BioWare has gone and stealthily released a new downloadable add-on for the first in the trilogy. It's been a long time since we had reason to dust off Mass Effect.
